How to add and remove GST
The GST in a GST-inclusive price is one eleventh of that price, because the tax is 10 parts out of 110.
Worked examples
Adding GST. A price of $100.00 plus GST is $110.00, of which $10.00 is GST.
Removing GST. A total of $250.00 including GST contains $22.73 of GST. The price before GST is $227.27.
Not everything has GST
Some sales are GST-free. The ATO lists which ones. If a sale is GST-free you do not add GST to it, so check before you use this calculator on a price.
Do I need to register for GST?
The ATO says you need to register if you run a business or other enterprise and have a GST turnover of $75,000 or more ($150,000 or more for non-profit organisations), or if you provide taxi travel, including ride-sourcing.
